Tiesda started windsurfing at the age of 10 in the Middle East where he grew up and started shaping boards and fins at the age of 15. By 1996, Tiesda moved to London to pursue a Masters Honours course in Mechanical Engineering that specializes in aspects of fluid dynamics, production control, thermodynamics, material science, advanced mathematics and mechanics. Following graduation in 2000, Tiesda joined Starboard and became responsible for board and fin development, design and production by 2002. Tiesda created Drake Windsurfing Fins in 2003.
